Oct 02 Solar Power Wind Satellite
Solar technologies are advancing at a rapid rate. Our customers at Vision Solar know that we are always following new stories in order to find some of the latest technologies. Along with this, we are always researching to make sure that we are up to date on all of the current information to better serve you. One of the latest solar technologies that has been brainstormed is the solar wind powered satellite. Satellites use an abundance of energy. Not to mention, they can be tricky to repair or re-power when things go wrong. Because of this, scientists have been trying to find a new way to power our satellites. Here is how a solar power wind satellite would work.
How It Works:
The solar power wind satellite would harvest power from solar wind. You may be wondering how this works. Well, In 2010 American scientists Brooks L. Harrop and Dirk Schulze-Makuch proposed the satellite as possible different solution to the construction of a Dyson sphere, a gigantic sphere conceived in 1960 by British-born American physicist Freeman Dyson as enclosing the parent star of a planet and drawing on the star’s energy to power the planet’s civilization. Using this technology scientists are able to see how a solar wind power satellite would rely on a long-straight current, which would be carrying copper wire directed towards the sun. This then could create a magnetic field in concentric circles around the wire.
There are a few issues that arise with the solar power wind satellite. One of them being the transport of energy back to earth. The Van Allen radiation belt acts as a shield to solar wind. Because of this, the satellite would need to be far enough away for that the power that is generated can be transported back to earth with less issues. However, as scientists still are trying to figure this out, there is a lot of hope that they may be able to find a way around this problem.
